COSMETICS

Liposomes can be used as delivery vehicles for cosmetics and skin care products. Liposomes can easily penetrate the outer layer of the skin and deliver active ingredients deep into the skin. This would improve the product absoruption, which would consequently improve its efficacy. Common skincare products that often include liposomes are moisturizing lotions and sunscreen. It has also been proposed that using liposomes as cosmetic delivery vehicles can provide unique benefits to the skin, such as delaying wrinkles and aging skin. Since liposomes can be used without additive products to enhance absorption, the use of liposomes can make a cosmetic product safer for the skin. Liposomes also improve skin hydration and prevent oxidation by creating a layer under the skin. Liposomes are non-toxic, biodegradable, and are absorbed quickly into the skin. [Citation 43] [Citation 44]

However, using liposomes for cosmetic products has disadvantages as well. Not much research has been conducted on the long-term effects of liposomes, so the health implications are unknown. In addition, the microscopic particles can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream, which could potentially create health problems as a person ages. [Citation 45]
