Liposomes can be used to deliver vaccines into the body. Liposome vaccines have been researched for over fifteen years, with some being accepted for human use and others still in clinical development. Some of the chemical properties of liposomal vaccines, such as methods of antigen attachment, lipid composition, bilayer fluidity, and particle charge, have dramatic effects on the immune system. These effects have been studied in order to produce the most effective and efficient vaccine delivery method into the body through use of liposomal delivery vehicles.
